Worship Wednesday - Death Was Arrested

Image
Today is Ash Wednesday, so this song seemed the most fitting of our Camp Songs from last summer. There really isn't much that needs to be said here. So today, just listen and read the words. We pray this Lenten Season is filled with connection, renewal, rest, and focus on and in Christ! Death Was Arrested - North Point Worship [Verse 1] Alone in my sorrow and dead in my sin Lost without hope with no place to begin Your love made a way to let mercy come in When death was arrested and my life began [Verse 2] Ash was redeemed only beauty remains My orphan heart was given a name My mourning grew quiet, my feet rose to dance When death was arrested and my life began [Chorus] Oh, Your grace so free, washes over me You have made me new, now life begins with You It's Your endless love, pouring down on us You have made us new, now life begins with You [Verse 3] Released from my chains, I'm a prisoner no more My shame was a ransom He faithfully bore He cancelled my debt and...

Worship Wednesday: Days of Elijah

Image
This song has become a staple here at Horizon. And most people only know the chorus. There is so much Biblical history written into this one song. We have Elijah, Moses, the voice in the Desert, Ezekiel, David, Laborer's in the Vineyard, And Jehovah coming out of the hills of Zion! The Days of Elijah: Elijah was a major prophet of God during the time of the Kings. He was specifically around during King Ahab's reign. King Ahab was known as one of the most wicked kings to ever rule over Israel. He allowed his wife Jezebel to distract his heart and he led the people worship false gods. The Canaanite god Baal specifically. Baal was the god of nature and life. Because he followed Baal instead of Yahweh, there was a three year drought over the land. And then the drought ends at the showdown on Mount Carmel. This was a high place dedicated to Baal worship and on this mount. Elijah called down fire in a miraculous showdown of the power of the gods. God came through when Baal did not ...

Worship Wednesday: Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace)

Image
Worship at camp is a unique experience. For the counselors and staff, we get to take a break from some of the chaos, some of us leading worship, others praising God with our kiddos. For some of the campers, this may feel similar to their church: a band leading up front, others singing around them, and this sense of unity through music and worship. For other campers, however, this may feel foreign and even uncomfortable at times. These kids may not have ever been exposed to this kind of music, oneness with a community of Christians, or even this kind of Love that we receive from our beautiful Lord. For them, and for anyone else in that sanctuary struggling with brokenness, emptiness, or feeling unseen, we sing a specific song:  Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace)  by Hillsong Worship.  All these pieces, b roken and scattered. In mercy gathered, m ended and whole Empty-handed b ut not forsaken, I've been set free. ---  These beginning ...

Worship Wednesday: Build Your Kingdom Here

Image
This upbeat, action packed song has become a favorite here at Horizon. It fits in the middle of our crazy fun songs and our slower deeper worship songs. This is a powerful anthem for young people to sing. These children and youth and even the counselors could be spending their summer doing a multitude of other things, and yet for this week they have dedicated themselves to enriching their relationship with Christ at camp.  As they jump around and sing (often yell) "Build Your Kingdom Here, Let the Darkness Fear," it sends chills through room. This is a generation of young people crying out to God to use them in mighty and powerful ways for the kingdom. They want to set the church on fire with the Holy Spirit, they want to win the nation back and change the atmosphere of complacency that they are growing up in. This is the generation that is not afraid to speak, they are tearing down walls and speaking up for the injustices in this world. They are not satisfied with the st...
