Worship Wednesday: King of My Heart
For the past couple of summers the song King of My Heart has become a Thursday night staple. On Thursday nights at camp we enter into worship with a lot of emotions. The week is coming to an end and we are exhausted, yet not quite ready to go home. The camp pastor has spoken all week about God and a kind of love that is like no other. The chills run through with every "You are Good" that is sung.
Each week at camp we strive to create an atmosphere where our campers can come together and experience God in nature. This happens when we separate them from the rest of the world, encourage them to step out of their comfort zones, and teach them to sing and worship in a way that is often not done at home. At camp it is ok to dance and move, to sing at the top of your lungs, and fall to your knees overcome with emotions. We learn to open ourselves up to the ways that God is calling out to us. The stars are brighter, the world is quieter, walls tumble, and campers hear God call their name.
At camp it is easy to learn and to see that God is good, to allow God to be the King of our Hearts and know that He will never let us down. Camp is a mountaintop experience. The whole design is to create moments where we experience God in big ways. But we don't live on the mountaintop, we are called back to the valley to live our lives and live like Christ. So we sing songs like this one to remind us that when the valley is dark and the journey is long that God will be the fire in our veins guiding us to love those who haven't been or can't get to the mountaintop for their own experience. We are to take the mountain with us.
Here at camp we pray that as campers leave the walls stay down, and the connection stays strong. We know that it is harder to stay plugged into God at home but we pray that campers will take the tools we have given them home with them. Some of these tools are the songs that we sing. So this cold, wet January as you are as far away from camp as you are near to it let this be your prayer:

Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh, He is my song
'Cause You are good
You are good, oh oh
You are good
You are good, oh oh
You are good
You are good, oh oh
You are good
You are good, oh oh
And let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh, He is my song
'Cause You are good
You are good, oh oh
You are good
You are good, oh…
